My family loves pizza! Whether it’s for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even dessert, you can have it hot and fast at home without waiting 45 minutes for mediocre pizza to be delivered. Since most of us don’t have a professional pizza oven at home, your outdoor grill works great and gets to those high temps that your regular kitchen oven just can’t match. No pizza stone needed!
Start by getting fresh dough from the local supermarket. We usually find ours in the refrigerated section near the deli. It’s about a dollar a bag, so I try to get an extra to keep in my freezer. Your favorite pizza shop may also sell their pizza dough to you.
Starting with a clean grill, brush the grill grates with olive oil. Preheat the grill to a high heat.
Using a rolling pin, flatten dough on lightly floured countertop or cutting board. Don’t worry about it being perfectly round. It’s actually easier to pick up from the grill if it’s more oblong shaped.
Decrease the grill heat to medium. Place the pizza dough directly on the grill; cook for one minute or until there are those beautiful grill marks on the dough. This is not the time to walk away from the grill or you may find yourself with a large burned disk or dough. Using tongs, flip the pizza over and continue grilling for another minute. The crust should be golden brown and lightly charred. Remove the pizza from the grill. Turn off the heat on one side of the grill.
Place the grilled pizza dough on a hard flat surface (cutting board) so that you can easily transfer the pizza back onto the grill. Add your favorite toppings and place the pizza back onto the side of the grill with no heat. Close the grill lid. Cook for about 5-8 minutes, until the toppings are heated and the cheese has melted.
Remove the pizza from the grill with a large metal spatula onto a cutting board or other flat surface and let it rest for a couple minutes before cutting into slices.
